Binge Eating Disorder
Binge Eating Disorder describes the behavior of individuals who binge eat, but do not use inappropriate weight control behaviors such as fasting or purging to lose weight.
Binge Eating usually involves rapid and large consumptions of food with a sense of loss of control, accompanied by feelings of shame, embarrassment, guilt and anger.
Binge Eating is frequently associated with obesity and in the past these individuals have been referred to as “compulsive overeaters,” “emotional eaters” or “food addicts”.
Research suggests that approximately one-fifth of the people who seek professional treatment meet criteria for binge eating disorder.
